Recipe: Grilled Curry Sausage with Sauerkraut on a Roll and home-made Curry Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 4 curry sausages
  • 250 g sauerkraut, drained and squeezed
  • 1 chopped shallot
  • 70 g tomato puree
  • 200 ml ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Bread rolls of your choice

Preparation:

  1. Light the barbecue and prepare it for direct grilling at a temperature of about 200˚C.
  2. Grill the bratwursts for about 10 minutes until light dark brown and fully cooked.
  3. Meanwhile, heat the sauerkraut in a skillet on the barbecue or in the kitchen.
  4. Heat oil in a sauce pan for the sauce.
  5. Fry the chopped shallots until soft but not yet brown.
  6. Add the tomato puree, ketchup, balsamic vinegar, honey, chilli powder, curry powder and Worcestershire sauce to the pan.
  7. Stir the sauce constantly until nicely combined and until the spices release their aroma.
  8. Cut open the buns and place a grilled bratwurst on each bun.
  9. Add a portion of warm sauerkraut on top of the sausage.
  10. Spoon a generous amount of spicy curry sauce over the sauerkraut and sprinkle with some more curry powder to finish it off.
