Pan: VH25, VH25H, VH30H, VH30

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup yoghurt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • Extra melted butter or oil for frying in the skillet
  • Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
  2. Add the yoghurt and milk to the flour mixture and mix well. Then knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until the dough is soft and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a bowl lightly greased with oil and cover with a damp cloth. Let the dough rest in a warm place for about 1 hour to allow it to rise.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped garlic to the melted butter and stir well.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Roll out each ball into a thin oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Brush a piece of dough with the garlic-butter mixture on one side. Place it in the skillet with the smeared side down.
  7. Bake the naan bread for 1-2 minutes, until bubbles appear and the underside is golden brown. Turn the naan bread over and fry the other side also until golden brown, another 1-2 minutes.
  8. Repeat this process for the rest of the dough, each time greasing the skillet with the garlic-butter mixture before adding a new piece of dough.
  9. Optional: Brush the warm garlic naan with extra melted butter and sprinkle with fresh coriander leaves for extra flavour and aroma.
  10. Serve the garlic naan warm as a side dish to curries, stews or other dishes.

Enjoy your delicious garlic naan from the skillet!
