Recipe Tomahawk Philly cheesesteak sandwich

Time: 20 min
Serves 4
Pan: VH25H, VH25

Ingredients:

  • 1 tomahawk steak (about 1.2 kg), at room temperature
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 white onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 green peppers, thinly sliced
  • 2-3 jalapeno peppers, thinly sliced (remove seeds for less heat)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 4 sandwiches of your choice
  • approx. 300gr cheddar cheese or provolone

Preparation:

  1. Light the charcoal in your barbecue and heat it for direct grilling over medium-high heat.
  2. Sprinkle the tomahawk steak generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides. Then brush the steak with olive oil.
  3. Place the tomahawk on the barbecue and grill for 4-5 minutes per side for a medium-rare result. Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest under aluminium foil for a few minutes.
  4. While the steak rests, heat the skillet on the grill rack of the barbecue.
  5. Add a little olive oil to the skillet and fry the onion, green peppers and jalapeno peppers over medium-high heat until soft.
  6. Add the balsamic vinegar to the vegetables in the skillet and stir well. Let it simmer for a minute to allow the flavours to blend.
  7. Slice the tomahawk steak thinly, against the grain direction.
  8. Open the buns and sprinkle cheese on each bun. Place the sandwiches briefly on the barbecue to melt the cheese.
  9. Fill the sandwiches with the slices of grilled tomahawk steak and the vegetable mixture.
  10. Serve the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches immediately and enjoy the delicious flavour combination of cheese, jalapeno peppers and tomahawk!

Tip: If you like extra spice, you can add more jalapeno peppers or leave the seeds in the peppers. Adjust the amount of jalapeno to your taste preferences.
